Legal Bases for Processing Your Personal Information

Depending on the purpose, we rely on: performance of our contract with you to provide the app, account, storage, synchronization, and requested features; our legitimate interests in securing, operating, understanding, and improving Clockwork, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests; your consent where we specifically request it; or compliance with a legal obligation.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we assess the purpose, necessity, effect on users, their reasonable expectations, and the safeguards available. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests as described under 'Your Rights and Controlling Your Personal Information'.

  • to enable you to customize or personalize your experience of our mobile application
  • for analytics, market research, and business development, including to operate and improve our mobile application, website, associated applications, and associated social media platforms

  • for advertising and marketing, including to send you promotional information about our products and services and information about third parties that we consider may be of interest to you
  • for internal record keeping and administrative purposes
  • for the creation and use of marketing content. We will however only use anonymized data such as, but not limited to, images with no personal information included, watch measurements and statistics.

Please be aware that we may combine information we collect about you with general information or research data we receive from other trusted sources.

We do not and will not sell your personal information, watch images, watch data, or machine-learning training data.

Product Improvement and Machine Learning

Clockwork uses computer-vision and machine-learning models to provide watch-related assistance, such as detecting and cropping a watch in an image, suggesting the time shown on a watch face, and suggesting a watch brand. We may develop, train, test, and evaluate these models using data submitted through Clockwork for the purpose of improving these features and developing closely related watch features within Clockwork.

The development data may include a cropped image of the watch face, the displayed watch time or measurement timestamp you entered, and the watch brand you provided. We only use the fields needed for the specific model or evaluation. Notes, names, email addresses, account credentials, serial numbers, reference numbers, and other unrelated account or watch information are not included in machine-learning training datasets.

Before an image is included in a training dataset, we minimize it to the watch area where technically possible and remove unnecessary surrounding image content and metadata. Direct account identifiers are removed. Internal watch and measurement identifiers are replaced with keyed, one-way pseudonymous values. Because pseudonymized data may still be personal data where a link can reasonably be restored, we continue to protect it as personal data until it has been irreversibly anonymized.

We rely on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR to improve Clockwork's own watch-related features. In assessing this interest, we take into account that the data is limited to what is necessary, is not used to profile users or make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, is not sold, and is protected by access controls and the safeguards described in this policy. You may object to this use at any time by contacting us.

Machine-learning model inference is performed locally on your mobile device. Watch images are not sent to an external artificial-intelligence service to produce a detection, time prediction, or brand suggestion. We do not provide training datasets to third parties or use them to train general-purpose artificial-intelligence models for third parties.

Model outputs are assistive suggestions. You remain in control: you can review and adjust a predicted watch time and choose whether to use a suggested brand.

We may use an additional watch-related field in the future only where it is necessary to develop or evaluate a clearly defined Clockwork feature and the use is compatible with the purposes described here. Before beginning a materially different use, we will update this policy, explain the new data and purpose, and provide any notice or choice required by law. This section does not authorize the use of unrelated personal or account information for model training.

Security of Your Personal Information

When we collect and process personal information, and while we retain this information, we will protect it within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.

Although we will do our best to protect the personal information you provide to us, we advise that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and no one can guarantee absolute data security. We will comply with laws applicable to us in respect of any data breach.

You are responsible for selecting any password and its overall security strength, ensuring the security of your own information within the bounds of our services.

How Long We Keep Your Personal Information

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need to. This time period may depend on what we are using your information for, in accordance with this privacy policy. If your personal information is no longer required, we will delete it or make it anonymous by removing all details that identify you.

Temporary training exports that contain direct identifiers or fields not required for model development are deleted after the minimized, pseudonymized development dataset has been verified. Pseudonymized machine-learning development data is reviewed at least annually and is deleted or irreversibly anonymized if the relevant model family has not been actively trained, tested, or evaluated for 24 consecutive months.

Model files and genuinely anonymous statistics that cannot reasonably be used to identify a person or extract a person's contribution may be retained for as long as they are needed to operate, evaluate, secure, or improve Clockwork.

However, if necessary, we may retain your personal information for our compliance with a legal, accounting, or reporting obligation or for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific, or historical research purposes or statistical purposes.
